Joan was a really special lady. When I was 16 and staying with the Ratcliffes on an exchange with Julia, she would put out breakfast of cereal and milk every morning. I have fond memories of wonderful talks with Joan in the kitchen at the table. We talked about so many things and the conversation was always easy. Since that summer in the 80's I've stayed in touch with Julia, Joan and Keith. I was fortunate to visit them when I was back in England in Hertford and Norwich. She was a warm person with a wonderful heart, a curious spirit and a soft voice. I will really miss her. Much love to the family, Heather Anderson
